BROOKBY SONG HAS 13.1 IN STEEPLES Brookby Song is topweight in the Great Northern Steeplechase with 13.1. He won the race with 12.0 last year and with 11.9 in 1947. The highest weight carried by a winner of the race was 12.13 by Kiatere in 1907. A good performer in Master’ Meruit receives almost two stone from the topweight ’and it seems too much to ask the champion to concede so much weight in such a gruelling test. His owners have made no definite arrangements for the horse, but he will probably start in races where there is a maximum weight. He is engaged in the Waikato Steeples next week, where the maximum weight is 12.0.
