CENTENNIAL “ LANDING ” ECHO Mr H. S. Watson, chairman of the Port Chalmers Centennial Committee, was, when in Christchurch recently, interviewed bv Mr Langford, liason officer of the Christchurch City Council, and Mr Briggs, Mayor of Lyttelton, on the Port Chalmers centennial " landing.’’ The Mayor of Lyttelton expressed surprise that all the participants in the landing were Port Chalmers residents, and that the total cost of the function, including decorations, was less than £SOO. SUNDAY SCHOOL JUBILEE The silver jubilee of the Sawyers’ Bay Anglican Sunday School was celebrated last week-end, commencing with a banquet in the Sunday School Hal], at which Mr F. H. Hudson, the founder of the Sunday school, was the guest of honour. He was presented with a fountain pen. and references were made to his long service to the children. The vicar, the Rev. J. A. Simpson, presided, and items were given by Mrs Peterson, Mr C. Abernathy and the vicar. A children’s party was given on the Saturday afternoon, and a popular figure was Mr R. Wallace, of Dunedin, who gave a conjuring performance. There was a dance for the young people in the evening. At the special evensong conducted by the vicar on Sunday afternoon reference was made to the occasion, and a child was baptised whose mother had been baptised at the opening of the Sunday school.
