COMMUNIST ORGANISER’S ADDRESS
Sir,—Your correspondent “ Taxpayer— And How!” praises the “excellent address” of Mr Wilcox, the Communist Party organiser. May I express the opinion that the speech was 95 per cent, pure drivel, overflowing with inconsistencies and deliberate inacuracies.. It is interesting to note that he said about Mr Sharpley precisely the things Mr Sharpley foretold would be said about him—that he was a degenerate, a thief, and a drunkard. In response to the cheers from the back of the hall Mr Wilcox informed the meeting that he himself could drink the interrupters under the table. Will this earn his expulsion from the party? ~ Your correspondent mentions the courteous attention to all questions and Interjections.” Mr Wilcox carefully Ignored any interjection?, however Politely put, which would have caused him embarrassment, and In those he did answer he usually turned the issue into a different channel. The last half of your correspondent’s letter deals with the “ political immaturity ” of the students present. May I inform Mr Wilcox that those students could have spoken all night on the fallacies and stupidities of his address had not the chairman seen fit to close the meeting at a quarter to 10— presumably to save the speaker's face. In conclusion, may I point out that the students’ high spirits are no indication *of lack of brain power. It means that they have realised that life is much more than one long political argument. It is a pity that more Communists are not endowed with a sense of humour.—l am, etc., Not Bluffed.
