TALBOYS HOME

Sir.—ln reply to “ Worried ’ I would say that the complaints appear to come from the outside not from the inmates of Talboys Home. It would Ipok better to have a fine building, and the aged and infirm are deserving of the best, but fine buildings,do not guarantee peace.and contentment any more than a fine house guarantees a happy home. If those who are so worried have the gift of scattering sunshine and introducing the human touch to the care of the lonely, aged and bed-ridden, it would be well worth while to give their interest to Talboys Home.—l am, etc., A Silver Lining.

Sir, —In answer to “ Faithful's ” letter, I urgently appeal to '* Faithful ” and all others who are interested in the welfare of the inmates of Talboys’ Home to communicate with me without delay.—, I am, etc., j John P. Morris, Quarry road. Mosgiel Junction. Phone 3065, Mosgiel.

Sir, —I quite agree with all that " Worried ” has said in his letters. On seeing the picture of the Salvation Army’s orphanage in your paper, I at once thought, why not this home for the old people, which is bathed in sunshine all day, and convert the present Talboys Home for the use of immigrants, as they will only use the home for sleeping in and will be absorbed in industry during the day. Sunshine is not so necessary for them as for the old. Many of my friends think as I do on this matter, and so I feel compelled to suggest the change-over. After all, surely our own old folk should have a prior claim on the home at Waverley. “ Charity begins at home.” Hoping my suggestion can be put before Miss Howard. I am. etc.. Ratepayer.
