FINALS TO-DAY

SOUTH ISLAND TITLES PA CHRISTCHURCH, Apl. 18. The South Island men’s lawn tennis title will be decided to-morrow between O. M. Bold and S. Watson, and the women’s title will go to Mrs M. Lawrence or Miss M. E. Adam. The semi-finals of these championships were played at Wilding Park to-day. Bold, with A. R. Cant, also wo/i the semi-final of the Men’s Doubles. Some good performances were put up today by young players in the Men’s Singles. A. N. Bailey had another very narrow escape against the former Otago champion, B. Boyd, who at one stage had two match points. Bailey put up a great fight against Bold, who won 6—4, 6—4. It was a game of good, hard hitting, with both players always eager to attack at the net, and both making spectacular recoveries at times. Bailey led 4—l in the first set. but then the game slipped from him. S. Watson had two very impressive wins to reach the final, first beating the aggressive left-hander, J. D. Snell, and then beating Cant, who is three places above him on> the ranking list, in'two straight sets. Watson's game was mechanical in its steadiness, and he made scarcely an error even when defending under pressure. Results:— MEN’S SINGLES Quarter-finals.—A. R. Cant beat A. J.
