RSA AWARD
"GOLD STAR BADGE
ELIGILIBITY OF MEMBERS
When Mr B. Allan moved at the quarterly meeting of the Oamaru RSA on Saturday night that Messrs, B. Williamson and J. Tavendale be recommended to receive the association’s certificate of merit and gold star badge, several members voiced the opinion that all members of the organisation should be eligible for the gold star award. Who was eligible for the gold star award, asked Mr L. Webb. He was told by the secretary, Mr A. C. Piper, that only members who had rendered outstanding service to both a local branch and Dominion headquarters could receive the gold star. This had been agreed at a former conference of the association in Wellington at which all branches had been represented. Mr R. Leonard said that any member who rendered yeoman service to the association should be eligible for the award. Other members said that all members should be eligible for the gold star award. After further discussion, in which the services given by Messrs Williamson and Tavendale were described, it was agreed that they should be recommended to receive the gold star and certificate ol merit, and also that the secretary should present a report to the next quarterly meeting of the association on the rules governing the issue of the award.
