SURFING DANGERS

Sir,—For the parents of the girU drowned recently in both islands and also for those in loco parentis one’s heart bleeds. Even in swimming baths, accidents can occur, which might prove fatal if resuscitation were delayed. When I took large parties of girls swimming I used to tell them to arrange themselves into groups of three or four; each girl was enjoined to know- where her companions were all the time. The girls liked the idea. All beaches off rugged coasts are dangerous: those off a low-lying shore are generally much safer. It can be presumed that the sea bed will repeat the nature of the coast line.—l am. etc., Dunback. M. Ewing McCabe.
