CHEERING WELCOME
MR CHURCHILL IN WASHINGTON NZPA—Copyright WASHINGTON, Mar. 24.
Secret service men and the police had to drive a wedge through reporters, photographers, and cheering crowds to get Mr Churchill from his train when he arrived in Washington for a brief visit to-day. There was no repetition of a minor demonstration yesterday in New York, when 175 persons, mainly women, shouted: “Go back home.”
Instead, eager citizens greeted him and cheered him from the train to the waiting British Embassy car. Mr Churchill and his party drove to the British Embassy, where a reception had been arranged so that American Cabinet and military chiefs and Congressional leaders could meet Mr Churchill and his wife.
