MINERS TO RETURN

LEWIS CALLS OFF “PROTEST” STRIKE NZPA—Reuter—Copyright

Rec. 10 p.m. NEW YORK, Mar. 24. Mr John L. Lewis, the United Mine Workers’ Union leader, to-day ordered his 463,000 idle coal miners to return to work next Monday. The order was directed to miners east of the Mississippi, who have been idle since March 14 in a stoppage ordered by Mr Lewis as a “ memorial ” to dead and injured workers. The stoppage was also meant as a protest, against the appointment of Australian-born Dr James Boyd as head of the Bureau of Mines. The miners lost 30,000,000 dollars in wages.
