BRITISH METAL WORKERS’ UNION NZP A Special Correspondent Rec. 9 p.m. LONDON, Mar. 25. Britain’s largest metal workers’ union, the 800,000-strong Amalgamated Engineering Union, has decisively rejected the efforts of the Communists to elect one of their number, Mr Reginald Birch, as general secretary of the union. Mr Ben Gardner, who was elected to the position with a majority of more than 30,000 over Mr Birch, is an uncompromising opponent of the Communists.
