LIVING MEMORIAL
NEW ZEALAND TREES ON CRETE SEEDS FROM AUCKLAND PA AUCKLAND, Mar, 11. : With a view to providing a living memorial to the New Zealand soldiers who were killed in Crete during the Second World War, the Auckland City Council will make' consignments of pohutukawa, kowhai and kauri seeds available to the Greek Government for planting on the island. The seeds will be sent by air in the near future on behalf of the people of Auckland who have been invited to contribute to the consignments. The gift was, officially accepted on behalf of the Greek Government by the consul-general for Greece, Mr M. E. Vrisakis, whose headquarters are in Sydney and who is at present visiting Auckland. He said the. council’s offer was greatly appreciately because it was felt that where there was:solidarity and kindness there was security.
