BALCLUTHA EWE FAIR Special to the Daily Times
BALCLUTHA, Mar. 11. Following the two-tooth ewe fair held last week the fair for older sheep was held to-day, when a large yarding of 10,577 sheep was penned. Largely made up of four and five-year ewes in good condition, the sale started quietly, but values firmed quickly. Sound-mouth tussock ewes were keenly sought after. Southland buyers were again active, and, combined with a good local demand, an excellent sale resulted. Quotations: — Medium three-shear Romney-cross ewes, 44s- best s.m. tussock ewes, 44s 9d; medium tussock ewes, 36s 3d; light Conditioned tussock ewes, 29s 3d. Romney cross four-year paddock ewes—Extra good, 39s 'to 40s 3a; good, 36s 3d to 37s Gel ; medium, 33s to 355. Five-year-old paddock crossbred ewes—Extra good made to 41s 6d; good, 34s to 375; medium, 29s to 335; small, 25s to 28s. Fat and forward f.m.. ewes made 2Gs to 335: poorer conditioned sorts, to 24s 6d. Good conditioned fine wool s.m. ewes made 30s 9d 1o 36s 3d; cull ewes, from 19s to 22s 6d.
