FIRST TYRE PRODUCED

NEW FACTORY AT UPPER HUTT

PA WELLINGTON, Mar. 11. The first tyre produced at the new Dunlop factory, Upper Hutt, came frqm the machines to-day. Announcing this, the Dunlop Company said this afternoon that a steadliy' increasing flow of tyres will follow as more labour is engaged. Production of the tyre is the climax of nearly two and a-half years' work on the buildings and nine months on the installation of more than 100 machines of various kinds. Great difficulties have been overcome, the company says, in obtaining supplies, plant and materials, and the completion of the machinery installation will go forward while production is expanding. A certain amount of finishing is to be completed on the main factory buildings, which cover three acres of floor space under one roof.
