CLASH OF CONCERT DATES
Sir, —If Dunedin is to keep its reputation for musical appreciation it is essential that we should encourage good artists of merit. Everything should be calculated to ensure good and enthusiastic audiences. How this is to be done in the cases of the appearances here of Mr Aubrey Pankey, who is singing in the Main Town Hall, and Miss Gladys Ripley and Mr Walter Midgley, who are singing in the Concert Chamber, it is difficult to follow. Unfortunately these singers have been booked to appear on the same night. Of course, this divides the attendances of the public, so that neither of the concerts can expect as big audiences as they otherwise might have. This division is thus to the disadvantage of the functions and also damages our reputation for culture. Who is responsible for this inadvertance? —I am, etc., Abdlel.
