RSA AND COMMUNISM

Sir, —Miss Gow’s letter reveals something we have long since suspected! She needs a new dictionary, an up-to-date set of Communist textbooks, a wider selection of current magazines and books by travelling journalists. I am afraid I cannot credit these innocent, upsophistlcated theories of Communism as expressed In her letters. They do giot tie up with anything we or know in the presentday trends. There may have been some truth in them 30 years ago, but Stalin * has now travelled well ahead of Miss Gow in philosophy.—l am. etc.. Totallsator.

Sir.—ln all H. Gow’s rhapsodies concerning Communism, I have never discovered a laugh. Now I have found the lady to be naive to the point of being merely amusing. Her creed is based on " hatred of exploitation, with all the oppression and human degradation it generates." The Communist State, she would have us believe. stands for “ freedom of speech and worship, and for the basic human rirhtr of food, clothing, shelter and education.* - I decline a press controversy, but woult welcome a revelation as to how thes* admittedly sound doctrines square wit> the fact of millions of wretched prisoner* in Russian slave camps. Would they endorse H. Gow’s claim regarding the benevolence of the Russian Communist, regime?—l am, etc., Gow to It.
