DEPOT SYSTEM

FAT COLLECTION BUTCHERS’ CO-OPERATION A scheme by which the public will be given every opportunity to contribute fat for Britain has been devised by the Aid for Britain Committee. At an executive meeting last night the secretary-organiser, Mr J. A. Goodman, said that containers will be placed in every butcher’s shop in the city. , * . . “When the scheme comes into operation, customers who have fat to contribute will merely need to leave it with the butcher, and it will be collected weekly,” Mr Goodman added. The chairman, Mr A. C. Stephens, said that this would in no way interfere with the regular collections, which will be continued. "For the next collection, Which is fixed for April 9, the organisation will be the same as that in September last year, Mr Stephens said. “This year, however, food as well as fat will be collected,” he continued. “ The fat will be accepted in any kind of container, but it will be of great assistance to the committee if housewives will hand to the collectors fat wrapped in paper rather than in tin containers.” It was decided to begin the new system of collecting as soon after the April drive as possible. The question of purchasing a truck was discussed at some length and a sub-committee was appointed to go into the matter. A sub-committee was also set up to consider the best method of organising fat collection in country districts.
