GOOD EFFORT BY FULL PLAY OVER SEVEN FURLONGS

Special to the Daily Times WELLINGTON, Mar. 8. The best efTort in a restricted training programme at Trentham this morning was a seven-furlong trial by Full Play, who finished a long way in front of Royal Tan and Langham. The trial grass was used for fast work and the going was good, in spite of an inch and a-half of rain on Monday.

Angell pleased when she finished a length ahead of Bonnie Fair at the conclusion of six furlongs, the last four being run in 51 3-ssec, and the three in 38 2-ssec. Angell was travelling comfortably throughout and could have bettered the time.

Newspaper strode freely over half amile in 53 3-ssec. The two-year-olds, Rising Tide and Dissenter, were on terms at the conclusion of a similar effort in 50 4-ssee, the last three furlongs taking 37sec. Although Rising Tide did not fulfil her engagement on the opening day there is nothing amiss with her and she is expected to contest the Pacific Handicap on Saturday. Dissenter is a bay gelding by Defaulter out of Capricious, and is trained by F. Roberts for Mr H. D. Greenwood. Full Play finished well clear of Langham and Royal Tan at the conclusion of seven furlongs in lmin 29 2-ssec, the last half-mile in 50 2-ssec. and the final three furlongs in 37 3-ssec. It was easily the best gallop of the morning and drew attention to Full Play’s prospects on the final day of the meeting. He looks improved with his outing last week. Langham and Royal Tan are sluggish track workers and were not kicked up in the straight.

Renowned completed her work by sprinting half a mile in 52 2-ssec. The Grate left half a mile behind in 53sec. She is at the peak of her form and should race prominently again this week in spite of a rise of 101 b. Excellency completed a similar trial in 52sec. It is doubtful if she has ever looked better and she should make a forward showing in the North Island Challenge Stakes.
