“ACTION TAKEN IS WARRANTED”
Industrial Correspondent WELLINGTON. Feb. 28. Commenting on the Dunedin tramways dispute over the dismissal of members of the union, the national secretary of the tramways union, Mr P. A. Hansen, said to-night: “ From the very meagre details we have, it does appear that the action being taken by the Dunedin branch of the union is warranted. There does appear to have been a flagrant disregard of the inquiries clause in the decision of the Emergency Disputes Committee, and even making allowances for all that, we fail to see on what grounds the dismissal of both men is warranted. “We are very hopeful that the matter will be thoroughly investigated and in that case we are confident that common sense will prevail and the employer will realise that there are not many unionists who will accept dismissal of a man simply because he was taken ill in the course of his shift. The national executive is watching the position and I am in constant touch with all members of the national executive, who are awaiting further developments." ■'
