INCREASED REVENUE
Electricity in Demand Sales of electricity for December amounted to £9945, an increase of £756 over December, 1947, and for Januarv amounted to £4973, an increase of £ 56J over January, 1948, reported Mr C. F. Jones, secretary, at the monthly meeting of the Waitaki Electric Power Board yesterday morning. The sales for the 10 months ended January 31 amounted to £70.876, an increase of £6047 over the corresponding period in the previous year. The Local Government Loans Board had sanctioned the raising of the renewal loan, 1949, of £SBOO, and authority for the raising of the extension loan, 1948, of £40,000 had been granted by Order-in-Council. Mr A. B. Lang was in the chair, and there' were also present Messrs J. Gerrie, A. J. Newlands, G. O. Pringle, A. R. Tait, J. I. McEwan, D. E. Neave and A. H. H. Pearce. The Department of Labour and Employment wrote in respect to immigration from the United Kingdom stating that while it was not possible to fill the two vacancies, for electricians with the board from the Atlantis draft, every endeavour would be made to assist from future drafts: The engineer, Mr N. A. Davidson, reported that 120 concrete poles were made at the board’s factory during the past two months, bringing the total manufactured since the factory commenced operations to 2176. During the two months 53 faults had occurred and fires in the Waitaki district had required attention by the board's faultmen.
