POWER CONSUMPTION

ALLOCATION EXCEEDED GLOOMY WINTER OUTLOOK Mr N. A. Davidson, engineer, reported to the monthly meeting of the Waitaki Electric Power Board yesterday that in one week during the past six the board’s consumption was 25 per cent, above its allocation, while in another it was 20 per cent, above the quota. In the remaining four weeks the consumption was over 14 per cent, above the allocation. Mr J. Gerrie: The position does not look too well for the winter. It seems strange that we should have such a big increase for January. Mr Davidson stated that this was brought about by an alteration in the basis of allocation. Up to the middle of December the allocation was on the basis of 1946 consumption plus 5 per cent. From the middle of January a percentage above the 1948 allocation was given.
