FIRES NEAR RAILWAYS

Sir,—Would it be asking toe much to inquire from some responsible railway official whereabouts in the Statute Book is it possible to find out that the railways are entitled to start fires whenever it suits them. The talk about soarfcs is nonsense as one spark found was the size of a pullet’s egg. Sparks will not light fires two or three chains from the railway line. Why is it not necessary for engines to have warrants of fitness, particularly with regard to spark arresters?—l am, etc.. Burnt Out.
