REFRESHER COURSES
ENGINEERING INSTRUCTORS
GROUPS AT TECHNICAL COLLEGE
Although nominally holiday time for teachers, many are attending refresher courses at present being held at centres throughout the Dominion. In Dunedin a two-day course for part-time motor engineer instructors will begin this morning at the King Edward Technical College, and another course, lasting a week, for full-time engineer instructors in post-prirrary schoois will begin on Thursday morning. The two-day course will be attended by not fewer than 15 instructors, who have gathered from all parts of the South Island. Chairman of the course, which is said to be the first of its kind in this branch of study held in the region, will be Mr R. Hynes, senior inspector of post-primary schools in New Zealand and a member of the Motor Certification Board. A full programme has been arranged, including lectures by visiting specialists. Although it is designed for part-time teachers of evening classes, the course has an added significance to those interested in motor engineering tuition in view of the initiation of part-time training during the day for motor mechanics in Dunedin this year. The second course will be attended by about 50 full-time engineering instructors from South Island centres. Mr J. Davidson, head of the engineering department at the King Edward Technical College, will be chairman, and again an impressive panel of specialists has been obtained to deliver comprehensive lectures embracing not only practical engineering, but also technical drawing.
Both courses have been organised under the aegis of the Teacher Refresher Course Committee. Most of the teachers attending the Dunedin courses are staying at Carrington Hall.
