DINING CARS
MATTER BEING CONSIDERED PA WELLINGTON, Jan. 17. The general position regarding refreshment services for train passengers was at present under review, a Railways Department officer said today when a report that the department was considering introducing buffet cars on some expresses was referred to him. Nothing definite had been decided about the future of such services, however, he stated. The running of dining cars on the railways in New Zealand was discontinued in 1918 and the refreshment rooms were taken over by the Railways Department. The general manager, Mr E. H. Hiley, said at the time that the alteration had increased the capacity of each train on which dining cars were previously run by one passenger car.
