SAFE RETURN

MISSING FISHERMAN

TWO NIGHTS ON COAST

PA AUCKLAND, Jan. 16. The fisherman missing from Okupu Bay, on the Great Barrier Island, since Thursday returned there in his own 14ft flat-bottomed boat on Saturday morning. He is L. Walters, of Okupu Bay. Walters had left home on Thursday morning to pick up crayfish pots he had set. When he had not returned on Friday, fears were felt for his safety, and an unsuccessful search of the area was made by a Catalina airsea rescue aircraft. Walters sheltered for two nights on the coast three miles north of Whangapara, having had" to run before Thursday’s storm.
