LIBERAL PARTY
NOTHING NEW IN POLICY
VIEW OF MR J. R. HANAN Special Correspondent INVERCARGILL, Jan. 16. Mr J. R. 1-lanan, M.P. for Invercargill, has no knowledge of the revival of the Liberal Party in New Zealand, news of which reached Invercargill at the week-end. First reports state that, though no definite date has been decided for the first Dominion conference of the revived party, it is intended to hold it in Wellington before Easter. The aims and objects of the party would then be submitted to the district representatives. No activity in the interests of the party has been noticed in Invercargill, a Liberal stronghold for many years, when represented by Mr J. A. Hanan. an uncle of the present member. Asked what he thought about the published planks of the party’s platform. Mr Hanan said he, agreed with the 15 points. Doubtless many other people would agree with them, but thev were not novel. All were embodied in the National Party’s policy. They were only the principles of a policy, and it would be futile to express an opinion until the full details of the programme and the names of the individuals handling it were an' nouneed. * According to a Christchurch report, there will be a provisional committee of the party there, and a meeting is to be called to form a branch.
