UPROARIOUS SCENES
TRADES HALL COUNCIL MEETING SUSPENDED MEMBERS ATTEMPT ENTRY NZPA—Copyright MELBOURNE, Jan. 14. Wild scenes developed at the Trades Hall when 26 suspended delegates from seven militant unions tried to force their way into a meeting of the Trades Hall Council. The original police guard proved inadequate, and when blows were struck reinforcer ments were sent for. In the confusion seven suspended delegates forced their way into the meeting, but their presence was detected, and the meeting adjourned amid uproarious scenes. The tactics of the suspended delegates were carefully planned, and they arrived accompanied by 50 supporters and two legal advisers. An official at the grille checked all credentials and warned the militants that they could not be admitted. While the argument was taking place a crocodile of suspended delegates marched to the door, and the seven men fought their way in. Prominent in the crocodile were three militant leaders—W. Bird (Seamen’s Union). B. Flanagan (Ironworkers’), and J. J. Brown (Railways’), all of whom failed to gain entrance. Afterwards the secretary of the Trades Hall Council, Mr J.' V. Stout, said that the suspended delegates who entered would probably be expelled from the'ir unions.
