YACHT RACING

TANNER CUP FINAL ARRANGEMENTS A yachting conference was held in the Manchester Unity Chambers last night to make final arrangements for the Tanner Cup contest. Since it was decided to complete the Tanner Cup before starting the Mellish Cup races, the latter conference was held in abeyance until Monday evening. The Tanner Cup conference decided that the first race this morning should begin at 11 o’clock and on other mornings at 10 o’clock. The Sailing Committee will meet at the conclusion of the morning races every day to decide the afternoon starting time. The time limit for each race will be two and ahalf hours. If a recall is warranted, a gun, red flag and numbers will be used. It was decided that the courses should be windward and leeward and triangular alternatively. The first course will be decided and marked out this morning. A late entry was accepted for the Mellish Cup. It was the Matchbox, sailed by M. Pinkney, of the Paremata Yachting Club, Wellington. Officers elected for the Tanner Cup contest were:—Chairman, Mr A. S. Baxter (Marlborough); secretary, Mr J. D. Cameron; boat and sail measures. Messrs R. Matheson (Auckland) and J. McConnachie (Nelson); judge, Mr N. Pickney (Wellington); floating judge, Mr J. N. Knight (Canterbury); starter, Mr I. Brown, (Otago); time-keeper, Mr A. S. Baxter.
