SCHOOL CADETS' CONTEST HONOURS LIST PA WELLINGTON, Jan. 14. The 1948 results of the two rifle shooting competitions conducted annually among cadet units in postprimary schools in New Zealand were announced by the Minister of Defence, Mr Jones. The Minister said the Islington Challenge Cup, which carries with it a cash prize of £ 10, had been won by the cadets of the Sacred Heart College, Auckland. A Company, Marlborough College Cadets, were the South Island winners of the Press (Christchurch) Challenge Shield, and A Company. St. Patrick's College Cadets (Wellington), were the North Island winners. In this competition, A Company Marlborough College Cadets, also won a cash prize of £lO for the highest average score. The Islington Cup, presented by Lady Islington when Lord Islington was Governor of New Zealand, is competed for by Cadets who are 17 years of age or over. The honours list for the 1948 competition, together with the average scores, was:—Sacred Heart College Cadets, 87.655; Marlborough College Cadets, 76.047; Nelson College Cadets, 72.796; Stratford Technical High School Cadets, 68; Palmerston North Boys’ High School Cadets, 66.667; Southland Boys High School Cadets, 53.8. The Press Challenge Shields, presented by the Christchurch Press Company, are competed for by company teams of Cadets under 17 years of age with ,22in rifles. The honours list for the 1948 competition was: A Company, Marlborough College Cadets, 94.6; A Company, St, Patrick’s College Cadets (Wellington), 93.9; A Company Wanganui Collegiate School Cadets, 89.5; B Company, Wanganui Collegiate School Cadets, 89; Marton District High School Cadets, 88.9; St. Augustine’s School Cadets, 88.4; A Company, Southland B.H.S. Cadets (No. 1 Team), 84.6; A Company, Nelson College Cadets, 84.3; A Company, Rongotai College Cadets, 84.0; Napier B.H.S. Cadets, 83.8; A Company, St. Patrick's College Cadets (Silverstream), 83.7; Wairoa District High School Cadets, 82.7; Roxburgh High School Cadets, 82.5; Hawera Technical High School Cadets, 81.8; A Company, Palmerston North B.H.S. Cadets, 81.7; Waitaki B.H.S. Cadets, 81.6; Southland B.H.S. Cadets No. 2 Team, 81.3; A Company, Hutt Walley Memorial Technical College Cadets, 80.7; South Otago High School Cadets, 80.3; Hastings High School Cadets, 80.1.
