MARY MACHIN SHIELD WOMEN’S CRICKET CONTEST PA CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 14. The Otago women’s second cricket team beat Canterbury by six wickets to-day to win the Mary Machin Shield for the first time since 1932. Only a bright 26 by M. Shockel prevented the complete rout of Canterbury in the first innings, and the side was out for 61. M. Scott took four for 10 and F. Dickinson four for 30. Otago replied with 90. M. Scott made 16, E. Butler 27, M. Connolly not out 13, and D. Meek 10. M. Bond took four for 27 and T. Haines four for 36. Otago hit off 36 runs for four wickets, B. Scoles made 12 not out.

The Dunedin Ladies’ Brass Band will give the first concert for the 1949 season at the Gardens to-morrow.
