WORK OF ALLIED KOMMANDATURA
MOVE WELCOMED IN BERLIN Rec. 11 p.m. LONDON, Dec. 23. The Berlin correspondent of The Times says the resumption by the three Western Powers of the work of the Allied Kommandatura in governing the city has been warmly welcomed by leaders of all the democratic parties in Berlin. It is described as “ a symbolic act ” and as freeing the Western Powers from “ the veto disease ” which had hitherto afflicted the Kommandatura in its task of ensuring the efficient government of the city. The Allied decision is also accepted as further proof of the Western Powers’ determination to uphold and consolidate their position in Berlin. Immediate interest now centres in what steps will follow the calling together of the Kommandatura. The Chief Burgomaster, Professor Reuter, said yesterday that among the next steps were the introduction of an orderly currency and the strengthening of the city’s relations with Western Germany.
