IMPUDENT THEFT
YOUNG WOMEN TRICKED PA AUCKLAND, Dec. 23.
Two young women employed in the city depot of Porter’s dye works were tricked into leaving the shop unattended yesterday afternoon. A woman’s voice over the telephone asked that when a certain man called he be requested to telephone their factory. A man called, and after “ speaking to the factory,” on the depot telephone, said the two assistants were to go to the factory and receive their presents from a Christmas tree at a party then being held. They left in a taxi and the trickster took charge of the shop. There was no Christmas party at the factory, and the young women returned hastily to find the unstaffed depot crowded with customers and £l2 In cash missing from the till.
