LAST-MINUTE IDEAS FOR CHRISTMAS GIFTS
Children love playing nurse to their dolls, and a home-made present which will delight a small girl’s heart is a cardboard box decorated importantly with a red cross and labelled “ First Aid.” Inside, plan a collection of roller bandages, adhesive plaster; emergency dressings, safety pins and tiny squares of pink and white lint neatly done up in cellophane to look professional. These should all be in the tiniest sizes, suited to small dolls and the small fingers which will use the articles. Some triangular bandages should be included, in case dolly’s arm must go in a sling. Needles, cotton and a thimble would be appreciated by the older little girl, but ointments and lotions might be safely omitted. A saucer garden is always a delightful gift, and. if watered sparingly every day, will usually last almost two weeks. Fill a saucer (or a smooth and carefully cut herring and tomato sauce tin) with moist sand or soil, and completely cover with flowers. Short stems are required, and flowers Infrequently used for other forms of floral decoration can be utilised. Geraniums, fuchsias, catmint, cinerarias, wisps of tiny rock plants, single florets of hydrangeas and similar flowers are ideal for the purpose. The possessor of a good rockery might even be able to make a complete garden of miniature succulents, which grow very slowly, and would prove a source of interest for months.
