ANOTHER SOVIET VETO
CEYLON’S MEMBERSHIP TO UNO NZPA—Copyright PARIS. Dec. 15. The Soviet Union cast its twentyninth veto in the Security Council today to keep Ceylon out of the United Nations. It was Russia’s second veto on Ceylon’s application. She has now used 13 out of her 29 vetoes in the council to bar seven countries from membership. Before the vote on Ceylon the Council adopted a French proposal to defer voting on Israel’s membership application - until Friday. Mr Jacoo Malik (Russia) and Mr Simon Tarasenko (Ukraine) cast the only two votes against Ceylon. The vote was 9 to 2. The vote on the French proposal followed a bitter attack on Israel’s application for membership by Faris El Khoury (Syria), who called Jewish soldiers “gangsters.” United States and Russian delegatessaid that they favoured immediate action, but agreed to the short delay. A stormy session is expected on Friday. Sir Alexander Cadogan (Britain) toid the council that he was going to present another resolution asking for an indefinite postponement of action on Israel’s application.
