AGREEMENT REACHED

DAIRY FACTORY WORKERS’

AWARD

PA WELLINGTON, Dec. 17. Complete agreement on the terms of the New Zealand dairy factory employees’ award was reached in Conciliation Council. The settlement provides for a flat rate increase of 6s a week to all workers engaged, from August 1 last (or since then) until! December 20. From December 20 all rates will be increased by a further 5d a week, making a total of 6s 5d a week over the present rates. This will bring the basic rate in the industry up to £6 15s a week. All penal and overtime rates will be based on the new wage scale, thus adding further to the effect of the increase. The conditions of work will remain little changed from those ruling under the present award. The agreement is for an award operating for one year. No official report of the negotiations was issued at the conclusion of the sitting of the Conciliation Council, but the terms are to be the subject of an address by union, officials at a meeting of dairy workers at Morrinsville.
