SMART SPRINTS AT RICCARTON

The fast work at Riccarton this morning was done chiefly on the plough and it included a few attractive sprints Robin Redbreast and Trident ran half a mile in 49 4-ssec, after Primitive had done 50 l-ssec, while Royal Wedding took 51 2-ssec. Magical' dashed over five furlongs in lmin 2 2-ssec. the last half mile in 49 2-ssec, while Lorna Leigh followed in lmin 2 3-ssec, the last half mile in 48 4-ssec. Competitive was going better than Infatuate in lmin 3 2-ssec. Lord Elgin and Broie were under a pull over six furlongs, taking 53 4-ssec for the last half mile. . , Banshee registered lmin 30 4-ssec for seven furlongs, the last half mile in 51sec, while Musselman showed more speed early, completing his task in lmin 31sec. Marybum moved nicely over a mile in lmin 46sec. . .. Flying Orders went brilliantly on the No. G grass, finishing five lengths in front of Royal Saga at the end of five furlongs in lmin 2 4-ssec, the last half mlie in S °j eC S. Shaw is on his way to Auckland, where he will race two of his team. They have hack engagements to run out, so both of them will be started in the Queen’s Plate, on the first day, when W. J. Broughton will ride Eulogize, while N. A. Crombie will be on Idle Jest.
