CENTENNIAL FILM
CINE CLUB’S PRODUCTION WELCOME CONTRIBUTION A welcome contribution to the history of Otago’s centennial year has been made by the Otago Cine-Photographic Club, which has compiled a 16 millimetre film in technicolor covering the main events of the period of celebrations earlier in the year. A private screening of the film was held last night for the benefit of local body and public organisation representatives, among whom members of the Centennial Association were prominent. Much of the photography in the film is of an extremely high standard. The rich colbur and pomp of the Cavalcade of Progress have been captured with skill and presented with admirable technique and the scenes at the fireworks display immediately captured the interest 'of the' small audience. Another memorable occasion revived on the screen was the landing at Port Chalmers. Snippets from such events as the bowling tournament, the centennial air pageant and yachting championships were included in the film. The camera angles were not always all that they might have been, but it has to be remembered that the film was “ shot ” by a small band of cameramen operating from among crowds. Other deficiencies included the general collating of tyie film, which lacked a little in smoothness and continuity, but the general effect was pleasing to a degree. Copies of the film are expected to be purchased by local organisations as valuable souvenirs of an historic occasion.
