Wellington Trip Benefits Royal Tan
Special to the Daily Times CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 28. C. G. Humphries took, four of his team to Trentham, but some of them were not at all suited by the conditions. The three year-old Corofin had only one race, but he should do much better the first time he is seen on a firm track. Military Chief, the maiden of the party, was not started because of the soft track, but he should do well later as he is a very promising galloper. Royal Tan was given an easy time after he won the Islington Handicap at the Grand National meeting. He has come home from Trentham bearing an improved appearance and as C. G. Humphries will now give him some serious galloping he shduld be at his best for the New Zealand Cup. in which he has received 7.12, the same weight as he carried last year, when Beau le Havre beat him into second place. Indian Dawn struck herself while she was working at Trentham one day last week and she had to miss her engagements on the second and third days of the meeting. She can be regarded as an unlikely starter in the New Zealand Cup and she may require a spell. Bruce was showing signs of soreness after his race in the Harcourt Stakes at Trentham on Monday. Apparently, how : ever, it was not serious, as he moved quite freely on the following day. and there has .been nothing wrong with him since he returned home yesterday. L. J. Ellis is hopeful that he will be ready to run a good race in tlie New Zealand Cun.
