ANNUAL GENERAL ASSEMBLY IMPORTANT QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION Daily Times Special Service WELLINGTON, Oct. 28. Ministers and elders from all parts of the Dominion will gather in Wellington at the beginning of next week for the annual General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church, beginning on Tuesday evening. The assembly will convene under the presidency of the moderator, the Right Rev. J. D. Smith, of Auckland, whose last act in his year of office will be to install the new moderator, the Right Rev. C. J. Tocker, of St. Paul's, Invercargill. That will be on the opening night, after which Mr Tocker will preside over the assembly.,, On the next afternoon the GovernorGeneral, Sir Bernard Freyberg, will pay an official visit. A notable visitor in the second week will be the Rev. Dr George Macleod, M.C., leader in the lona community in the Church of Scotland. On top of his clerical distinctions, Mr Macieod is a baronet. He has never used the title, however, apart from special concerns of the Church. The assembly will debate again the proposed union with the Methodist and Congregational Churches, extension work in new housing areas, recent changes affecting the mission fields (especially those in India and in China), Communism (on a report from the Public Questions Committee', education, gaming and the liquor question The annual conference ot the Presbyterian Women’s Missionary Union is held simultaneously with the assembly.
