COUNTRY REPRESENTATION ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY PLAN A proposal giving angling clubs in the country districts representation on the councii of the Otago Acclimatisation Society was adopted by a meeting of the council at Dunedin last night. The proposal, which was submitted by the chairman, Mr J. M. Paterson, provides for the division of the society's area into four districts, one member being appointed in each district to represent it' with full voting rights on the council. The tentative subdivision of the district suggested by Mr Paterson was:— Upper Clutha (Lawrence and northwards), comprising Teviot and Alexandra clubs; Lower Clutha (below Lawrence and southwards), comprising Balclutha, Kaitangata, Clinton, Tapanui, Waipahi, Pukerau, and Conical Hills clubs; Northern, comprising Maniototo and Palmerston clubs; Southern, comprising Mataura and W.vndham clubs. Taieri was considered as being part of the town district, and requiring no separate representation. The council decided to invite suggestions from affiliated clubs as to the four members who would preferably be holders of both shooting and fishing licences. Steps would be taken to allow for these members to have voting rights at council meetings. In discussing the proposal, members of the council agreed that some form of direct representation for country clubs was desirable. It was pointed out that a fair percentage of the members of the angling clubs in the country districts were also shooting enthusiasts. This, it as felt, would mean that the representation would not be confined to anglers, and would tend to encourage the formation of more joint shooting and angling clubs.
