STEADILY WIDENED
BREACH BETWEEN RUSSIA AND YUGOSLAVIA
TITO REMAINING FIRM
N.Z.P.A.—Copyright Rec. 9 p.m. LONDON, Aug. 16. The breach between Russia and Yugoslavia has steadily widened during the past months, says the Belgrade correspondent of the Daily Telegraph. The Russians may well. have decided that Marshal Tito forfeited the last chance to save himself by confession and repentance. There has been no modification of the Cominform’s demand that Tito and his associates must submit or be “ removed.” Tito, on the other hand, is steadily consolidating his position, and is apparently determined to continue his defiance and be ready for any eventuality. There has been a purge of those provincial Ministers and officials who were considered not completely devoted to Tito and internal security has been tightened by calling in for cancellation all passports.
