OAMARU TROTTING CLUB
RECORD TOTALISATOR TURNOVER Special to the Daily Times OAMARU. Aug. 10. The year ended July 31 has added another success to the history of the Oamaru Trotting Club, with stakes, nominations, acceptances, and totalisator turnover maintained at the high level established in recent years. The stakes for the two meetings have now reached the figure of £8250, and the totalisator turnover of £105,828 10s was a record for the club. Stakes exceeded the receipts from the totalisator by £llOO, but notwithstanding the substantial increase a satisfactory profit of £BB7 13s 5d has been made. The matinee meeting on January 17. with stakes of £165 for maiden trotters and a similar amount for maiden pacers, was very successful, and enabled the winners to graduate from maiden class. The North Otago Trotting Owners and Breeders' Association assisted in running the meeting, and did valuable work for the sport, locally!
The recommendation of the Royal Commission on Gaming and Racing that an additional permit be granted to the club was fully justified, the annual report stated, and the club looked forward to haidnfl the recommendation implemented at an early date.
The following members of the committee will retire, but offer themselves for re-election Messrs S. D. Browne, P. T. Mulligan, L. Smart, J. W. StevensoA. A. Todd, A. W. Wallace, and D. Williams, nominations closing on August 18. Notice of motion has been given to the annual meeting that Messrs D. Dunn and W. J. Irving, both of Oamaru, be appointed honorary life members.
