TWO NEW BUSES
FAIRFIELD SERVICE SCHEDULED TO BEGIN ON AUGUST 20 Suburban travellers between Fairfield and Dunedin should have their transport problems eased by the addition of two new buses to that rim, scheduled to start on August 20. With a seating capacity of 29 and 31 passengers respectively, the two buses will be used to supplement the present service and to relieve congestion during peak-loading periods. No attempt is yet to be made to extend the existing time table by the operators of the route, Otago Road Services, Ltd., which is owned and maintained by returned servicemen.
Built by a Christchurch firm, the buses will have modern interior lighting and a special type of comfortable leather seats. They will be named symbolically, as with the other buses of the company’s fleet, Aotea and Karakia. and will cost in the vicinity of £3OOO.
Special provision has been made for the assistance of mothers with babies, who form a large group of the travelling public, by the attachment of pram carriers on both front and rear of the new vehicles.
