CASTAWAYS RESCUED
VESSEL SINKS OFF FLINDERS ISLAND BRISBANE, July 12. The coastal, freighter Wandana has rescued from' the shores of remote Flinders Island, 300 miles north of Cairns, the eight survivors of the 50ton motor vessel Lochiel. which sank nearby on Saturday. An explosion in the main hold set, fire to the Lochiel, which was travelling from Thursday Island to Cairns. H.r crew of five and thi-ee passengers reached land before she sank in five fathoms. / ■ The Wandana x-esponded to signals and took the castaways off in the early morning, nine 1 ours before news of the wreck reached Brisbane.
