Mrs F. Hyde, of Tarras, has been a' visitor to Dunedin. Mr and Mrs W. R. Brinsley returned on Saturday from a trip to Auckland. Mrs R. Mercer, of Christchurch, who has been a guest at the City Hotel, will return home to-day. Miss Ngata Buswell left last week for the north to join the Trojan Star bound for England. Miss Valda McCracken will leave Dunedin on Thursday to join the Rimutaka for England. Miss Ann Stewart, who is a teacher of art l dn Glasgow-, is the guest of Mrs E. Y. Smith, of Meuse lane, Anderson’s Bay. Mrs John Hamer, of Alva street, left yesterday by air on the first stage of her journey to Washington, U.S-A. Mrs E. Denny and Mrs W. Ward are spending a holiday in Oamaru, where they are guests at the Queen’s Hotel. Mr and Mrs N. Y. A. Wales held a small 5 o’clock party on Saturday to announce the engagement of their daughter Nancy to Mr Noel Jackson. Miss Rona Dyer, well known in art circles in Dunedin, will leave to-morrow for the north to join the Rimutaka on her way to England. To mark the centennial year, a Hospital ball will be held on Friday evening in the Concert Chamber. This innovation should prove popular with the staff as everyone attached to the Hospital in any way is invited. The gallery will be open to onlookers. The monthly meeting of the Townswomen’s Guild was held in the Pioneer Women’s Memorial Hall, with the president, Mrs N. Eeckett. in the chair. Reports of the concert tea and the meeting of the National Council ot Women were read, and alter two songs by Mrs Duncan, accompanied by Mrs Wallace, members decided upon a constitution for the guild. The hostesses were Mrs McCracken and Miss Hare. A singular honour has been bestowed on Miss P. Whakarau, of the staff of the Mosgiel Woollen Company. A tall, graceful girl, she has been chosen as the leader of the New Zealand marching team during the royal visit to Wanganui next year. The team will later go on tour in Australia. The Music Circle’of the Otago Womens Clud held its monthly meeting in the lounge on Friday evening. Miss Stella Baviev presided, and introduced the guest sneaker tor the evening, Mrs Davies, who save an interesting talk on Chinese music, she traced the beginnings of the s°ngs to the very early manuscripts of the Chinese and illustrated her talk with Chinese folk songs, sung by Mrs Benzoni and violin solos and piano solos by Miss Bayley and ivirs Campbell. Mrs Beaumont and Mrs Campbell also acted as accompanists. The Mosgiel Town Hall was the scene of a large and festive gathering on Thursday evening, when the staff of the Mosgiel Woollen Mills held a bail—the lirst Tor 3a years. An impressive grand maren and novelty dances 'to good music were arranged by the staff social Committee. as a result of the unqualified success of the ball, it has been decided to make it an annual event.
