Shoes Are Important With New Silhouette

NOTES FOR WOMEN

Many women who ■ like the new longer skirts are ignoring the fact that this fashion calls for high-heeled shoes. . Out of a mist of uncertainties, including padded hips, very rounded shoulders, and ankle-length day-frocks, three more or less permanent rules appear to have emerged—twelve inches from the ground, a small waist-line, and, certainly, high-heeled shoes.

The woman of fashion will, this spring, be turning her attention to footwear. For the beach or fireside flat shoes are permitted at all times, and for the “ teen-ager ” the street ballet shoe, or the popular slipper type, is perfectly correct, but for those past this tender age the shoe that gives balance to the whole picture has a higher heel. This heel is not necessarily a stilt heel, but should be chosen after a careful consultation with a full-length mirror to decide which shoe-type adds delicacy to the foot, and suits the particular costume. For the less slim ankle, that old favourite, the t-strap shoe,, has returned. It also gives that strapped look, which is so popular at the moment. Another revival is the shaped Louis heel, brought back into fashion for its delicacy, and its obvious air of belonging to some of the modern silhouettes. Then there is the brightly-coloured shoe, emerald green or sapphire blue, the one splash of colour with an unfigured costume. A new form of shoe, the shell shoe, will be the latest whim, but may be worn only on the prettiest of feet. It is like a scooped-out shell which makes a shallow covering for just the edges of the foot. Naturally, the shoe and stocking must be fitted most carefully if this style is chosen. Lastly, of course, there is the plain, mid-heel court shoe without which no wardrobe is complete. These, as is well known, look delicate, but walk firmly, a necessity in New Zealand, where the woman of fashion and the busy housewife are. one and the same person.
