MILK BY SEA

WELLINGTON’S PLIGHT P.A. WELLINGTON. May 27. In an effort to avoid the rationing of milk to householders in the Wellington area, supplies are to be brought daily from Christchurch by steamer expresses. The Wahine left Wellington to-night taking 200 10-gallon cans for filling and a similar number will go to Lyttelton to-morrow night and Saturday. “ We arc taking as much milk as we can get from the South Island.” said Mr E. L. Benseman, general manager of the city milk department. “We are hoping to get 500 or perhaps 1000 gallons of milk daily from Christchurch. If we get even 500 gallons it would •help guite substantially in avoiding rationing to householders. Restaurants and similar businesses will still have to be rationed.”
