GALLOPS AT WINGATUI

YESTERDAY'S TRACK WORK

Conditions at Wingatui yesterday morning were very pleasant and the going on the course proper, on the outside of which most of .the work took place, was in splendid order. The most interesting piece of work was that of Dark Chief (J. Dooley), Fox chase (A. E. Didham), Western Front (R. E. Page), and String Band (L. Hare). They cantered round to the six-furlong post where the speed was turned on, and Foxchase and Dark Chief finished together about three lengths ahead of Western Front, with String Band, who was not ridden right out, about five lengths away. Western Front showed signs of soreness after the gallop, and can be regarded as a doubtful starter next week. The six furlongs were covered in lmin 23 l-ssec Joygiver was worked over more than a circuit at three-quarter pace and did his work well. Faites vos Jeux and Push On were sent six furlongs in lmin 23sec. St. Bruno galloped the last three furlongs with them. ■ , .. Victory Star was holding Tabasco at the end of six furlongs in lmin 27 2-ssec. Cricket Field and Kildare Lad finished together over six furlongs in lmin 24sec. Duvaals led Sir Abbot home in a gallop over five furlongs in lmin 9 3-ssec, and, working alone. Orthodox was not allowed to do his best over the same disance in lmin 12 4-ssec. Hymn of Hate and Tympani were sent over four furlongs in 56 3-ssec. Robert, Robot, Sir Dragon, and Paladeo finished in that order at the end of seven furlongs in lmin 44sec. Gold Song was schooled over two hurdles and cleared them fast and cleanly. He will be started in the hurdle event on the final day of the Dunedin meeting.
