OVERSEAS LEAGUE

Plans for Expansion " The head office of the league has made a substantial allocation of funds to the New Zealand branehe's, which are prepared to spend this sum to attain theii objects,” Mr G. W. J. Bell, treasurer of the Dunedin branch of the Overseas League, said in an address at the monthly meeting of the league in the Pioneer Women’s Memorial Hall on Tuesday evening. Mr Bell, who had attended the conference held at Auckland in April, said that the first essential for the development of the league in New Zealand was to find ways and means of increasing the membership and enlarging the activities of the league. A full-time general secretary, Mr John Milner, had been appointed, and it was hoped in the near future to appoint salaried secretaries at the main branches. This raised the question of premises, and it was thought that ultimately it might be possible, after some hard work, to supply accommodation for all the activities of the league in different centres. Mr Bell explained the system in Auckland, where there were senior, twentieth century, and junior groups all functioning independently of each other. Mr Thomas Ritchie, who was in the chair, spoke of the work of the league in connection with child immigrants, and Mrs H. E. Battersby thanked Mr Bell and those who gave items. These were:—Recitations, Misses Joyce Rowley and Betty Dillon; songs, Mesdames Dorothy Bell and W. F Forman, and Miss Jean McLay, The accompanist was Miss Margaret Gardner
