Mrs Ernest Adams and Miss Ruth Adams left by plane on Wednesday to spend a holiday in Christchurch. The Otago Women’s Club will entertain Miss Janet Howe, the star of “ Carmen.” on Monday afternoon at 3.30. Mr and Mrs James Begg entertained friends at a 5 o’clock party recently in honour of their daughter. ,Miss Elizabeth Begg. Mrs F. Evans, of High street, who is returning on the Rakaia from a two years’ visit to England, is expected, to arrive in Dunedin early next week. Mrs Lewis Raven, of Auckland, is the guest of Mrs W. N. Wood, of Royal crescent, Musselburgh. Mrs Beth Wakefield, accompanied by her sister. Miss Lonney Whitelaw, has returned from Central Otago. They were the guests of Mrs J. R. Peterson, of Cromwell. Mr and Mrs J. Grabham, of Stoke, Nelson, who will arrive in Dunedin to-day, will be the guests of Mr and Mrs Bruce Smith, of Kew. Mrs T. E. Hickson, of Auckland, is the guest of her sister, Mrs W. Garrett, of Moana crescent, Sunshine. Miss Barbara Jenkins left yesterday morning for the north to join the Ruahine bound for England. Dr lan Rutherford and Mrs Rutherford entertained last Thursday in honour of Mrs Rutherford’s sister, Miss Elizabeth Begg. Among hostesses who entertained for Miss Barbara Jenkins were Mrs Norman Speight, Mrs R. Slater, Mrs J. A. Jenkins, Miss Shona Hogan, and Miss Margaret Barnett. Mrs James Dodgshun, of Masterton, who with her family, will arrive in Dunedin to-morrow, will be the guest of her mother, Mrs A. F. Browne, of Leitn street. Mr and Mrs Cyril Edgar, of Beaumont, who will arrive in Dunedin during the week-end, will be the guests of Mr and Mrs F. Wakefield Holmes, of Onslow street, St. Clair. The National Council of Women has secured three speakers for the rally to be held on June 9. These will be Miss Winifred McNaughton, of Auckland, Mrs Leicester Webb, of Wellington, and Mrs John Harris, of Dunedin. Miss Elizabeth Begg left Dunedin on Tuesday for Auckland to join the Ruahine bound for England, where she will remain for the next three years to further her studies. Mr and Mrs James Begg accompanied their daughter as far as Auckland. Mrs S. L. Hughes, Miss V. J. Peppier, Mr W. Hamilton, and Mr D. H. Law, all of Christchurch, who are visiting Dunedin for the “ Carman ” season, are guests at the Law Courts Hotel. Dr R. Ogilvie Buchanan, of London University, and Mrs Robert Wright, of Auckland, who have been ithe guests of Major W. Pollard and Mrs Pollard, of Albert street, St. Clair, have left for the north. The monthly meeting of the Civic Circle of the Otago Women’s Club was held on Wednesday. Miss Andrew presiding over a large attendance of members. Dean A. C H. Button gave the address. A vote of thanks was proposed by Mrs F. Wakefield Holmes and carried by acclamation On Monday evening Mrs C. C. Roberts presided over the fortnightly meeting of the St. Clair Women’s Club. Mrs John Macfarlane and her concert party presented a musical programme, which was much appreciated by the large number of club members present Mrs Rutherford, on behalf of club members, thanked Mrs Macfarlane and her party. Quests welcomed at the Dunedin Travel Club's meeting on Wednesday morning were Mrs J. L. Williams (Wellington) Mrs W. S Corbett (Auckland) Mrs M R. Ralfe (Wellington Travel Club), Mrs T. E.
