REQUEST DECLINED

TRAMWAY UNION DEPUTATION TO MANAGER SHIFT MEETINGS TO-DAY Members of the Dunedin branch of the New Zealand Tramways’ Union will hold two shift meetings co-day to discuss the latest developments m the dispute between the union and the engineer-manager of the City Transport Department, Mr L. C. Greig. Yesterday afternoon Mr Greig announced that he could not agree to the request made that the- matter of payment for men doing relieving duties should be held over until after a sitting of some competent outside authority to settle the dispute. The president of the union. Mr W. B. Richards, told the Daily Times last nieht that unionists still considered that the status quo in respect of payments should be maintained until after an outside hearing. It is expected that the shift meetings will decide that all men who would normally carry out the relieving duties of those on holiday or days off will in future decline to carry out this work.
